From the Introduction:
The Most Important Event in History
Deeper into the Meaning of Easter
This is a booklet about the meaning
of Easter. Pretty simple, right? As every good Sunday
School student knows, Easter is about Jesus dying on the
cross and rising again. And why did he die? For our
sins, of course.
But what does that mean, really?
I started seriously asking myself
that question a few years ago. I was one of those Sunday
School kids who could recite the basic meaning of Easter
from a very young age. However it was not until much
later in life that I really began to ponder its
significance more deeply. I realized that, according to
the Bible, the death and resurrection of Jesus is the
most important event in the history of the world, but I
didn’t really know why. I started asking questions like:
“What was it about Jesus’ death and resurrection that
affected the universe and dealt with my sin?” “What
happened on a cosmic level that was so important?” “How
did the world change during those 3 days in Jerusalem
2000 years ago?”
I didn’t (and haven’t) found
complete answers to these questions, nor do I expect to
in this lifetime. However, my search did bear some
fruit, and I would like to share some of the answers I
found with you briefly here. I pray that you will find
them as helpful as I have in understanding God and the
world more clearly and in appreciating more fully all
that he has done for you |
